When it comes to skin care, I believe that every woman over 30 should use a serum. Serums contain a much higher percentage of active ingredients than typical moisturizers and frequently contain either botanical extracts or plant-derived essential oils.
These two terms are often used interchangeably, but there are distinctions between such plant-based ingredients. Essential oil gets its name from embodying the distinctive properties and fragrance of an aromatic plant or flower. It is produced through a steam distillation process and only a few drops of essential oil are typically harvested from pounds of raw plants. Rosemary, lavender, peppermint, and eucalyptus are common examples.
Botanical extracts also come from plants. They are not distilled like an essential oil but left in their natural state. These botanicals have powerful medicinal properties for calming and healing the skin and are often added to skincare formulations for their antioxidants. Examples are green tea and Echinacea.
If you’re looking for hydration, my favorite is Yon-Ka Serum. One pump is all you will need for your entire face and neck. As it is pure essential oils, I like to use it in the evening. My daytime serum, which won’t interfere with your makeup, is Optimizer Serum with an added bonus of hyaluronic acid.
