Many women complain about their hair being knotted, tangled and unmanageable. Especially when the hair is long, even something as passive as sleeping can cause it to knot and tangle. The solution is not in finding a “miracle product” but in how you take care of your hair on a regular basis.

My most frequent tip is to brush your hair daily with a boar bristle brush when the hair is dry, to help carry the natural oils from the scalp to the ends. One’s natural oil is the perfect way to keep the hair lubricated, making it far less likely to tangle. Another tip is to comb your favorite conditioner or mask through the hair with a wide tooth comb while in the shower. Make sure to comb downward in short strokes, starting from the ends of the hair and working your way up toward the scalp (as opposed to combing from scalp to ends in one long stroke). Women often break their hair while combing or brushing it when wet, since wet hair stretches and tends to snap when pulled. You can also try switching from a cotton to a satin pillowcase which is more gentle on the hair, especially when it’s colored or highlighted.
