There has been a lot of buzz lately about BB creams. The “BB” stands for “beauty balm” and was actually first developed in the 1960s by a German dermatologist for post-surgical use. She combined a mixture of 5 products – a serum, moisturizer, primer, foundation, and sunblock, into one so that her patients could easily apply it in one step. It wasn’t until the 1980s when this product was first launched to the mass market in Korea where it became popular, eventually making it’s way to western markets.

This is a great all-in-one product that I love using as a first step, prior to applying makeup. I use it mostly as a primer, and still apply all of my favorite serums and moisturizers (just less of each), but one drop of this miraculous cream makes my skin look refreshed and illuminated. I also love using it on its own when going to the gym, on the weekends, or just running around doing errands. With an added swipe of your favorite lip color and some mascara you get a natural-looking, healthy glow!

If the product feels too light in color for your skin tone, you can add a drop of your own foundation to customize the color. This is also a great paraben-free sunblock, as it contains zinc oxide, which is better than any sunscreen. Formulated with organic ultra-fine minerals, it won’t clog the pores.
