There has been a lot of buzz lately around BB creams. The “BB” stands for “beauty balm” and was actually first developed in the 1960s by a German dermatologist for post-procedure use. She combined a mixture of 5 products into one so that her patients could easily apply it in one step. It wasn’t until the 1980s when this product was first launched to the mass market in Korea, eventually making its way West. You can even formulate your own BB cream at home by combining a small amount of each of the following ingredients – a serum, moisturizer, primer, foundation, and sunblock.
My favorite BB cream is by Sunshine Botanicals. Formulated with organic ultra-fine minerals for added iridescence which imparts a natural, healthy-looking glow. It’s also a great paraben-free sunblock, as it contains zinc oxide which is better than any sunscreen. I like to use it as a primer before putting on my makeup. I still apply all of my favorite serums and moisturizers (just less of each), but by adding one drop of this miraculous cream, my skin looks refreshed and illuminated. It works especially well as a base for red carpet events and brides. Also great on its own when all you need is just a touch of coverage for the gym or while you’re running around doing errands.
Pro tip: If the product feels too light in color for your skin tone, add a drop of your own foundation to customize the color.
