The “Ombre” began as a popular hair color trend, worn in one form or another by everyone from celebrities to everyday women, and has evolved to a frequently requested highlighting technique that is inspired by how the sun naturally lightens the ends while the natural root depth is maintained. The Modern Ombre is an evolution of this look - more blended and sophisticated, without such a distinctive line of demarcation, that is also suitable for a wider range of clients. It’s a technique that we’ve been doing for some time at our salons and teaching at our academy. More recently, it is being referred to in the press as “Ecaille” (nothing like a French name to create a trend out of a technique!) . Ecaille actually translates to tortoise shell and is created with balayage highlights that have a warm, golden, caramel tone, and a rich base color. It can also be done using vivid colors for the Urban Ombre.

In addition to its focus on the Modern Ombre, this class will cover everything from balayage basics, proper tools, and color theory, to advanced technques and the nuances of placement and processing, regardless of the desired outcome. It will put you on the path to becoming a balayage expert, whether you’re a beginner to this art form or have been doing it for years and are looking to perfect it and take your work to the next level. We will even touch on balayage for hair extensions that will be bigger than ever for spring and fall, 2015. Learning how to skillfully highlight extensions will open up a range of possibilities for your work and enable you to double your income!

The morning will begin with Eva’s presentation on balayage, color theory, and the Modern Ombre, followed by a demonstration on two live models. After a catered lunch, you will have the opportunity to practice this technique on mannequin heads while being supervised by Eva and her team of educators, to ensure that you receive plenty of personalized attention. Please note that videotaping of this class is not permitted.
